describe
The DS1388 I²C Real Time Clock (RTC), Supervisor, EEPROM is a multifunction device that provides a clock/calendar, programmable watchdog timer, power monitor with reset, and 512 bytes of EEPROM. The clock part can provide information such as hundredths of a second, seconds, minutes and hours, working in a 24-hour format or a 12-hour format with AM/PM indication. The calendar section provides day, day, month and year information. For months with fewer than 31 days, the date at the end of the month is automatically adjusted, including correction for leap years. A watchdog timer can be used to reset an unresponsive microprocessor. Programmable in 10ms intervals from 0.01 to 99.99 seconds. A temperature-compensated voltage reference and comparator circuit monitors the status of VCC. If a primary power failure is detected, the device automatically switches to the backup power supply, driving the reset output to an active state. In the event of loss of VCC, the backup power keeps the clock/calendar section going. When VCC returns to the normal level, the reset output remains low for a period of time to wait for the power supply and processor to stabilize. The device also features a push-button reset controller that debounces the reset input signal. The device is accessed through an I²C serial interface.
